2013 William Reid Stakes May Not Mark Black Caviar’s Melbourne Swansong

March 19th, 2013

Trainer Peter Moody has eluded to the fact that the 2013 William Reid Stakes may not be Black Caviar’s  final race start in Victoria after all.

The talented trainer has revealed that he would not object to keeping Black Caviar in the stable for another season, meaning she could appear in Melbourne during the spring racing carnival.

“She’s been well looked after, well-managed, patiently guided by her owners,” Moody said after Black Caviar galloped on Tuesday.

“I think she’s going as good as ever.

“Maybe there is another season in her.”

However, Moody did say that the more likely situation would be that Black Caviar would have her final Melbourne run at Moonee Valley in the 2013 William Reid Stakes this Friday night.

“That’s probably the way we’re approaching it. But once again, you never say never,” he said.

Black Caviar is said to be at her best ahead of her 24th career start in the 2013 William Reid Stakes.

“She worked lovely, a soft half-mile and quickened up the running,” Moody said.

“I was very pleased with her wind and her action.”

Black Caviar has already won all 23 of her race starts and will face just six runners when she attempts to stretch her unbeaten streak to 24 in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes.
