Twelve talented sprinters will line up for this evening’s 2016 Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley Racecourse; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Reigning champion Lucky Hussler has already heralded plenty of interest in 2016 William Reid Stakes betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au and remains outright $3.40 favourite, ahead of Holler ($3.90) and Japonisme ($6).
Will Lucky Hussler successfully defend his crown in the 2016 William Reid Stakes or will one of his many talented rivals post an upset?
Lucky Hussler ($3.40)
Lucky Hussler has returned to racing in typically slick form this time and should prove hard to beat in the William Reid Stakes from the ideal barrier 5. Resuming in spring for a number of impressive results highlighted by success in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m), Lucky Hussler returned to the paddock for a brief spell after placing sixth in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) and re-appeared for a commanding win in the Magic Millions Cup (1400m) on the Gold Coast on January 9th. Unlucky not to win the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) in February, the Husson gelding represents great value for money at current William Reid Stakes odds.
Fast ‘N’ Rocking ($21)
Fast ‘N’ Rocking is a proven Moonee Valley performer and undoubtedly offers punters the best value for money in betting markets at current $21 William Reid Stakes odds to win or $5.50 to finish in the first three. Charging home to win the Listed Caulfield Village Stakes (1200m) in October, the Fastnet Rock gelding progressed to fourth in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) before ending his campaign third in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m). Sure to have taken plenty of benefit from a luckless first-up run in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m), Fast ‘N’ Rocking has been confirmed to be partnered by regular hoop Michael Walker this evening.
Godolphin runner Holler carries winning form into the William Reid Stakes and should find a good position on pace from barrier 7, but may not be able to withstand the late pace of horses like Lucky Hussler and Fast ‘N’ Rocking. Posting a number of commendable results in 2015, Holler resumed this time for success in the Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m) before a luckless run for fifth in the Group 2 Autumn Stakes (1400m) on February 13th. Having beaten some of the country’s best horses to the line in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) last time out, the Commands colt has been confirmed to be partnered by leading Godolphin hoop James McDonald in the William Reid Stakes.
